Whether you are affiliate or network marketing, usually you get an ID, nick name or code name that you are give when you join.
This ID that you are either given, or choose is then inserted into the url, or address of that website.
Basically for tracking purposes. You give the website address, with your ID included, to someone, they click on it or type it into their web browser, they get taken to the website and, because your ID is included, you get the credit for their visit, and the sale if their is one.
